The Byron Youth Soccer Association (BYSA) was formed in 2010 by co-founders Terrence Forrest and Martin Koza. The incorporation of BYSA as a non-profit organization occurred in September 2010. BYSA began as a member of the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association and the inaugural season was in the spring of 2011 with 163 players ranging from kindergarten to 4th grade, which created 14 recreational teams. In the fall of 2012, BYSA had its first traveling season which consisted of 23 players that developed two teams.
The Byron Soccer Complex was built from a collaboration between the City of Byron and Somerby in 2005. BYSA started a relationship with the City of Byron in December of 2010 to use the Byron Soccer Complex. The soccer fields are equipped with goals, nets, and corner flags. The complex includes a pavilion, portable restrooms, concession stand, and storage shed.
BYSA offers coach training sessions prior to each season for our recreational league parent coaches. BYSA assigns licensed coaches for teams U12 and above, based on availability. Our coaches are provided with gear bags each season.
Equipment, maintenance, coaching, and other expenditures are funded through registration fees, the support of local businesses, donations, and fund-raising efforts.
BYSA became a member of the Southern Minnesota Soccer League (SMSL) in the fall of 2021. This was the SMSL's inaugural season which consisted of 13 clubs including BYSA.
BYSA registered 535 total youth participants for the spring 2021 season and 323 youth participants during the fall 2021 season.
BYSA currently offers a recreational league for kids pre-k to 5th grade and competitive league opportunities for youth U9 – U19. This two-tier structure helps provide appropriate training, coaching, and competition for all participants. Seasons for both leagues take place in the spring and fall.
